I have gotten a lot out of Facebook over the past year... I have reconnected with my second grade crush who, after accepting the loving gift of a cool, yellow pencil box, decided to move to a different town, never to be heard from again, well, until I joined Facebook... I reconnected with friends from childhood, high school and college who I had lost touch with for one reason or another... I have been able to stay up to date on what's going on in the lives of various friends and family... Facebook has given me an easy way to make weekend plans, invite people to various events as well as get invited to events... I've even gotten a date or two thanks to my devastatingly good looks in my carefully selected profile pictures... but alas, a Facebook first for me... I am actually using it for business!!! Yes business...
Just the other day, I found out my colleague is traveling to LA for a prospect meeting and was asked if I knew any companies that they could meet with while out in the "City of the Pretty". I vaguely remembered that one of my friends, who happens to be in my Entourage, had an Ad Agency as her place of employment in her Facebook profile... Sure enough, after a few back and forth emails, we realized that her company might just be a good fit for a partner opportunity and a meeting was set for next week.
Then the unthinkable happened... not one day later, I got a friend request from an old buddy from the Cape. We had worked together years ago at fish market, selling the freshest fish to the masses (my love for sales AND lobster really blossomed that summer). Anyways, after accepting his friend request, he shot me an email saying that he checked out the Awareness website after seeing it in my profile and thought it would make sense to meet up to discuss partnership opportunities as he too is working at an agency where there is a lot of interest in social media...
Seems as though the stars are aligning and I'm liking it!
So on Tuesday of this week, Eric Schurr posted a touching tale of a young boy who has one heck of a golf swing. It was very nice story... but sadly, I couldn't help feeling jealous of the little tyke. All he had to do was watch an infomercial hocking something related to golf and poof... he has a golden swing. I have spent years trying to hit a golf ball on the first try nevermind perfect my swing. Lucky little guy...
Anyways, back to the topic at hand. I hate to one up anyone, but since we're on the topic of feel good stories, I have to chime in with this gem... Here's a little video that I happened to see on one of the morning shows the other day. You want touching, I'll give you touching...er, let me rephrase that... You want to see a story that will make you feel warm and fuzzy, that will help you remember that it's the little things in life that drive happiness, and that might even bring a tear to your eye.... well here you go. Get the tissues ready. Enjoy.
Listen up people... it's that time again. Awareness is looking for the best and brightest to come out of the wood work and join our Business Development team. more »
So.... I decided to wear my spectacles to work today. As I am usually a big-time contact wearer, I wasn't surprised to get the "ah... you wear glasses?" or the "have you always had those?" or the "wow, you look quite fetching and debonair today..." (OK, I made up the last one) but I was a little thrown off when the cashier at the cafe downstairs told me that I look... how did she phrase it "smarter than usual". I'm not quite sure if that was a compliment or a cheap dig... I'm leaning towards the dig. Happy Monday.
